I have a book on Chinese painting that has been sitting around in my library that I rediscovered recently. Tonight a read a few pages of techniques and scanned some interesting examples quickly before heading to the drawing board. The below pictures are some in-progress shots of an ink painting that I started while under the influence of some of these new ideas. The finished piece would be classified as spontaneous, detailed style. However, it's still in the works (not pictured here). Right now, I would call this a very spontaneous painting! ^_^

I've always enjoyed the splashy and free style achieved in the spontaneous Chinese and Japanese ink paintings. In my opinion, it's pretty hard to get one or two blobs of ink to say, "That's a fox!" It's a challenge that I enjoy while fulfilling my personal aesthetic by keeping things clean, simple and energetic.
